Kansas City, Kansas
June, 2006
This tale begins pretty much the same as most at this point in my life. I had been spending too much time inside studying and after the test I had some time off to sneak away. A buddy from school here had planned his wedding for mid June, and gave us plenty of early notice to schedule our tests around him - what a swell guy. My roommate and I set out on the long drive to Kansas City, enjoying the prospects of a nice roadtrip.
We stayed pretty busy with the wedding and associated activities, but set aside a few hours one morning to try and scope out the area. Bob, my roommate, is not exactly a herper, but he was happy to tag along and he always kept a smile on his face - thanks Bob! Chad W. was kind enough to show us around to a few of his spots, and he managed to show off some Kansas flavor of one of my favorite animals, the timber rattlesnake, Crotalus horridus.
A nice copperhead was also found nearby.
It was really hot, and the animals weren't exactly cooperative in the direct sunlight and oppressive heat, but I managed to snap some quick pictures for memories sake. We found some more stuff as well in a couple other sites, but many were in shed unfortunately.
In the end, it was an excellent morning. Turning up a bunch of lifers is always a blast, but having the pleasure of being out with master himself, Chad W., really made this trip memorable.
